Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone — a 191-amino-acid protein produced biosynthetically. It is a different class of product from the rest of this category: a protein hormone rather than a steroid, and supplied as freeze-dried powder rather than a ready-made solution.

Handling is critical with this product. Somatropin is a protein and degrades with heat. Unreconstituted vials should be refrigerated. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated after mixing, and use within the period stated on the kit insert. Do not freeze, and do not shake the vial when mixing — swirl it. Mishandled kits are wasted.
