Tamoxifen citrate is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator with a long record of clinical use. Like clomifene it acts at the receptor rather than on the aromatase enzyme, and its selectivity is tissue-dependent — it behaves as an antagonist in some tissues and an agonist in others.

A point that is regularly confused at the point of purchase: SERMs and aromatase inhibitors do different things and are not substitutes for one another. Tamoxifen does not lower circulating oestrogen; it occupies the receptor. Store the box sealed and dry at room temperature.
